Location: Exeter (Mainly on-site but some hybrid working)

Reports to: CEO

Overview:

As part of this expansion, we are looking for a highly motivated Director of Product Development to lead the Engineering, Operations and Production teams.

Through your previous professional experience, you will demonstrate an outstanding track record for developing and delivering new products, from proving an idea to securing accreditation and putting in place strategies to scale production, installation and servicing. You will also have strong communication skills in order to liaise with multiple teams, ensuring the smooth running of projects.

The ideal candidate will have delivered new products that involve electronic components and software and have either experience in scaling a start-up business or have introduced brand new innovative products.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for the design and development of the company’s imaging systems.
  • Leadership of the Engineering, Operations and Production teams.
  • Put in place the processes and tools needed to scale the business efficiently and effectively.
  • Deliver accreditation and policies to ensure compliance with product and H&S standards.
  • Collaborate across the business to create and implement the overall product strategy and road map.
  • Putting in place and managing practices to manage projects effectively.
  • Ensuring the department has all the resources needed to meet its objectives.
  • Setting clear expectations for what is expected from each member of the team.
  • Regular review of key individuals’ performance against these objectives.
  • Develop and mentor the team to become leaders and inspire success.
  • Lead by example, incorporating company culture and values in everyday behaviours.

Skills:

  • A first-class technical skillset in a relevant discipline, and/or the ability to demonstrate an equivalent technical skill set through professional achievements.
  • Leadership of a multidisciplinary engineering function and track record in building high-performing teams.
  • A proven track record in new product development with an understanding of design thinking.
  • Good understanding of product accreditation, quality assurance and design quality standards.
  • A track record of working with the supply chain to demonstrate value and reduce risk.
  • A desire to put in place processes and policies to enable the business to scale and achieve KPIs (e.g. cost reduction or business improvements).
  • Experience in building roadmaps and strategic plans to deliver the company’s objectives.
  • Excellent problem-solving, debugging and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-moving, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
